Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Benjamin Franklin once urged people to "either write something worth reading or do something worth writing". I believe my kindergarten students can do both, but they are lacking essential materials needed to begin to put their thoughts on paper.
My students hail from a high-poverty neighborhood and sometimes acquiring even basic school supplies is difficult for their families.
It is difficult for them to concentrate in a bare-bones environment for seven hours, especially when we lack the materials necessary for them to be successful in school.
My Project
Since writing is such an imperative component of our curriculum, my students need to be well prepared to develop their skills. With the lined writing paper and sharpener, my students would be able to practice their writing and become avid writers. The borders will help me display their work so they can be proud of their progress and the stickers will motivate them to keep on working hard. The math reproducibles, number lines, and magnetic money would help their math skills in order to prepare them for first grade.
Although I try my best to get resources that will benefit my students, I do not always have the funds to do so; that is why we depend upon the generosity of others who are interested in helping children reach their potential by providing supplies that we would otherwise not be able to get.
