My 5th grade classroom is made up of very kind, energetic and enthusiastic 10 and 11 year-olds!
Every day on the first day of school I tell them a small little fib- I tell them I pay the principal off to get the best 5th graders placed on my roll.
Their eyes get wide, they break into a smile, and then for the next 179 days they live up to that expectation. I would like to live up to my end of the deal by providing them with the most engaging educational experience possible.
My Project
“If we teach today, as we taught yesterday, then we rob our children of tomorrow”-John Dewey. As a fifth grade teacher, I try to make my lessons fun and engaging for all of my diverse learners! My students need an opportunity to participate in appealing math sites such as ALEKS and Education Galaxy that tailor the instruction to the students’ ability levels. If we had 6 touchscreen Chromebooks, students could use technology as one of their rotations while the others are engaged in STEM activities, math mysteries, lesson work, and teacher time.
Chromebooks are a low-cost option that have a small size that makes them easily manageable and mobile- perfect for a classroom full of 10 and 11 year-olds!
Having access these Chromebooks in the classroom will allow me to blend traditional learning with technology in order to individualize and diversify education to meet all my students' needs.
