My Students

I teach elementary music to students in kindergarten through 5th grade. We focus on the basic elements of music and preparing them to continue with music in secondary school.

In my classroom we learn through singing, moving, and playing.

Ukuleles, unpitched rhythm instruments, and barred instruments combine with our voices to make music and enhance learning.

My Project

Playing instruments is an important part of the music curriculum. In my classroom steady beat, rhythm, tempo, dynamics, and timbre are just a few of the skills that we can practice on drums.

Last year our district was on an A/B schedule, and as a result my students had much less time in the music classroom than in a typical year.

In order to help them further improve the skills that were impacted by last year's schedule we need more instruments to allow more students to play at once. More playing time leads to better engagement and more repetitions to practice our skills.
