Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Aldous Huxley said, "After silence, that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music." My students are filled with a love for music and desire a way to express themselves through the creation of it.
The students at my prep school rise above statistics and exceed expectations of low income percentages when it comes to things like college readiness and persistence.
When students decide to join this school, they do so with the commitment to completion of high school and to furthering their educations past that. Our campus is 98% Hispanic and over 80% live in poverty. I'm amazed at the high quality of students that consistently come out of our school after years of transformational work. It's truly one team with one mission toward success.
My Project
These keyboards and pads will provide a rich musical exploration for the students at my prep school. BeatLab is a place were students can come to create and explore sound and become masters of music composition. This hardware will allow them to manipulate sound in a multitude of ways and empower them to exploit their own creativity.
What many kids need is a place to go after school to stay away from harmful things that surround their community and be in a safe environment where they feel like they are a part of something greater than themselves.
Creating music on the computer is a great way for kids to express themselves and engage their young minds.
