This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Every morning my students eagerly walk in the door at 7:45am, ready for breakfast with their friends and teacher. The first thing they do is put their take home folder in our "blue basket". How wonderful would it be for each child to have their own cubby for their folder and hard work?
Our school is an extremely diverse elementary/middle of Baltimore City, which my classroom reflects very well.
I have twenty two bright-eyed, excited learners in my room. Five of these students speak English as their second language, and two of these students receive special education services. We are lucky enough to have breakfast together every morning, thanks to City Schools. My class loves to sing and dance, and work together every single day.
My Project
They will use these mailboxes daily to store take-home folders, student work and handouts. The mailboxes will allow me to more effectively communicate with parents, as I will be able to locate individual student folders and work much more easily. At the end of each day, the students will be able to pack up more efficiently, maximizing instructional time. These mailboxes will also increase their independence, for each student will be responsible for their own cubby.
This project will improve my classroom by offering an area of ownership for each student.
At the end of the day they will be able to go to their cubby and collect their hard work to take home and show to their family.
