My 29 diverse kindergarten students are an enthusiastic and engaged group of 5 and 6 year olds who love to learn and explore. Many come from a cross section of our community and beyond. We a mixture of socioeconomically disadvantaged and English language learners. Few of my students have had exposure to this type of technology.
The students are a fantastic and exuberant kindergarten class.
They are 29 lively minds with an enthusiasm for exploring new things. We are constantly trying to find the most engaging means possible to teach the new STEM science and math standards and add skills and vocabulary that build the capacity for coding. I am certain this will be a great addition to our hands-on learning approach as well as fostering academic conversations, collaborative interaction, and developing our students' natural inquisitiveness. I can't wait to see them sparkle as they progress in their coding skills. This will allow us to begin to understand coding in an age appropriate and engaging way.
My Project
By funding this project you will help our class to fully utilize the Bee Bots we were granted from DonorsChoose.org last year. Guided by the Bee Bot Lesson planning book and starting with the command cards we can build our coding lessons and develop our abilities to code as well as our coding vocabulary. We will be able to provide actual coding lessons in a sequential and engaging manner using the teachers manual and all the mats. Our bee bots will always be ready to roll using the docking station and power supply. The command cards and learning mats can be used across curricular areas such as language arts for phonics, phonemic awareness; math for number skills, learning shapes and directional vocabulary; social studies in community lessons as well. I am so thrilled to have the opportunity to deliver this needed instruction to my kinder students!
