My classroom consists of transition-aged students (19-21 years) who are on the cusp of entering the world as adults out of post-secondary school. Beyond our doors, they will be entering the workforce without the supports and protection offered by our staff. They will need to be able to fend for themselves.
Each student is unique and their needs are all different.
Every day they are honored for their abilities and praised for their successes! Our school focuses beyond graduation when it comes to teaching our students to be successful in post-school life. Our school is broken down into 3 "Pathways" to independence. Our Pathway students attend a federal setting 4 special education program to support their needs and get them ready for post-graduation life. Many of the students at our school are diagnosed with severe and profound developmental disabilities including Autism and Severe Multiple Impairments. Our school is filled with committed staff who create a meaningful school experience for all students and their unique needs.
My Project
Our school has a brand new fully disability accessible Miracle League field and two teams itching to play adapted kickball! Help us train our athletes with a variety of weighted medicine balls to improve core strength, agility, flexibility, and coordination. Our athletes have a wide range of physical as well as developmental disabilities which can cause decreased core strength needed for throwing, kicking, running, jumping, and moving with a large object such as a kickball in their arms.
Weighted medicine balls of various sizes would be a great way for our kickball team to train and strengthen their core muscles in preparation for game play!
