My students need sensory items to improve their ability to maintain attention t task and complete classroom activities. The students love playing in kinetic sand creating sand castles and other structures.
I currently work with children who have a diagnosis of Autism. My students demonstrate maladaptive behaviors and require a school environment with maximum support.
I have created an environment in my classroom that optimizes functional life skills to ensure that these students are active participants in their daily lives.
Sensory breaks are necessary to allow the children to focus better. Sensory toys are also used as reinforcers to motivate the children to complete their work tasks. The students love squishy, colorful soft toys.
My Project
By having the ability to receive appropriate sensory input my students will be able to focus better and maintain attention to tasks. My students take frequent sensory breaks in order to complete their academic activities.
New sensory toys are extremely motivating and also serve as reinforcement for the children to complete their work.
Soft, colorful squishy toys would be used throughout the day to motivate and reinforce children. My sensory toys need updating. Some of the sensory items have broken or been torn by the students. Having a variety of sensory toys decreases the chances of satiation which will keep the students motivated throughout the day.
