New standards mean higher expectations and harder concepts. This is the challenge that the students of my classroom are facing. The Common Core math standards are more rigorous, and my students need engaging and student-friendly materials to help them master these new concepts.
My students are a great bunch of kids.
I am the general education teacher in an ICT (combination of special education and general education students) classroom, so I have a variety of academic levels and learning styles in my class. They all are hard workers and push themselves to meet the new expectations. The majority of my students came to America from other counties, and were first faced with the challenge of learning a new language, in which they succeeded with flying colors. Now they are facing another challenge: a more rigorous and demanding math curriculum.
My Project
The materials I have asked for will help my students master the challenging decimal concepts that they are expected to learn based on the new Common Core Standards. Children all learn differently, and it is important that you have the materials to meet the needs to all types of learners. The manipulatives I have asked for will provide the means for a more hands-on approach to decimals. The centers and folders will allow for independent practice and reinforcement of the concepts taught. Regardless of their academic level or learning style, these materials will benefit all.
It is a challenge to teach students with varying academic levels and even harder when you do not have the means to do so.
This is why I am asking for your help. Please help me get these materials so that my students can succeed and meet the new Common Core expectations.
