This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are my babies so I want them to have the best of everything. Many of my babies come from single-parent homes and they face various challenges in their everyday lives. I want to create an environment where not only will they learn and be productive citizens but they also feel safe to open up to new experiences in and out of the classroom.
I teach at a school in an extremely low-income area on the Westbank of New Orleans where all of the students receive free breakfast and lunch.
They love coming to school each day so that they can learn new and exciting things, socialize with their friends and get a giant hug from their teacher.
The items that I am requesting will help with all aspects of learning in my room for years to come.
My Project
The majority of my students don't have any technology in their home and if they do it is their parent's cell phone. The majority of computers in our school are in computer labs or classrooms of the higher grades because the state test is computerized. So the lower grades will maybe get a chance to go to the lab if it is not being used or they get the computers that can't be used for testing if any at all. There are programs in place for the Kindergarten students to use to help with reading and math.
Having the small group of Fire Tablets for my kids will improve their ability to learn using technology.
It will also teach them how to manipulate technology so when they reach the testing grades they will be prepared.
