I am a second-grade teacher in a high poverty elementary school in southern Delaware. I have both regular education and special education students in my classroom. I also have a high population of ESL students who are either new to the country, still learning English or lacking language and vocabulary. I love teaching second grade! Second graders are enthusiastic about learning and becoming independent individuals. My students are so passionate about learning and work so hard to overcome their daily challenges from home and school. I am always looking for ways to continue to challenge my students and better prepare them for third grade.
My Project
Our classroom library is frequently used and enjoyed by all. My kids love picking out new books to enjoy. Unfortunately we are finding that the selection of lower leveled books for my weak readers is also very weak. My students would love to have more readers available to them for reading options. This project includes a variety of fiction books including favorites like Batman, Biscuit, Berenstein Bears, and Star Wars. It also includes nonfiction books on topics such as sharks and rabbits. My students would love having additional titles to choose from. These materials would provide them with options they would be able to independently read without support.
Reading is a wonderful way to transport you to another world, take an amazing trip or just learn something new.
I try to instill a love for books, literacy, and acquiring new knowledge in my students. These new books will help me do just that!
