We are building a new liberal arts middle school where our students can begin the well rounded education that they need to be successful in life. We serve a racially, economically and culturally diverse population of students.
We are striving to create the kind of environment that fosters creativity and job skills in our students.
Our students are excited about learning and need the tools to continue fostering their creativity and desire to learn new skills that can be applied in other classes and the real world.
My Project
Students in art class are CONSTANTLY sharpening their pencils. The electric pencil sharpener the school provides is great for regular pencils but gets jammed up pretty easily with colored pencils. These X-ACTO® Model KS Pencil Sharpeners are the perfect tool for my students. The Twin-Hole Pencil Sharpeners are great for students to keep at their table for quick sharpening needs. I'm also including General’s® Layout® Extra Black Sketch Pencils - 6B so students begin to experience drawing with other media besides their generic #2 pencils.
Having manual pencil sharpeners allows the students to be able to sharpen their pencils whenever needed while also taking a load off the electric sharpener.
You wouldn't think that pencil sharpeners would be that big of deal but not having them in an art room creates all kinds of problems. My goal is to create sharpening stations around the room for students to utilize during class.
