Why sit at a desk, when you can be learning all over the room? I believe that movement, peer interaction, and hands-on activities are essential for student success and I make sure to incorporate them every day. I teach at a public, Title I school in a neighborhood school in the Midwest. My students love to learn through doing and are always eager to try something new!
My students are toad-ally frog-tastic!
My students love STEM, social studies, and reading nonfiction books. Recently we've been learning about monarch butterflies, their life cycle, and migration.
My Project
To inspire struggling and beginning readers, I strive to find high-interest books that incorporate the Dolch High-Frequency words, which students will enjoy reading. This year my students have discovered the Henry and Mudge and Fox and Friends series, and they absolutely love them!
We are ready to read!
In the first book, in the series, Henry adopts his dog Mudge, and they become inseparable. In each book in the series, Henry and Mudge have a challenge to overcome, and they do so in a funny and relatable way. Fox is a relatable character who gets himself into silly predicaments and then must find a way to overcome them. My little readers love the humor in these books and are excited to read each page. They don't want to put these books down. Even after they finish reading a book, they are excited to read it again and again!
This is where I need your help. I would like to get several books from the Henry and Mudge and Fox and Friends series to use in my daily reading groups. My students have reading group every day; they work on building their fluency, expression, comprehension, and background knowledge. With your help, I will be able to provide my students with the opportunity to read more books from this beloved series.
