I work in a Title One school with a beautiful, bright, excited group of kindergartners. They are very proud of all they have learned to do. They have worked hard to learn the alphabet, the sounds the letters make, and reading simple words. My children are very excited now as they begin to put these skills together to read! Every book they read at school they ask to take home and read to their families. I was very excited to learn about the We Both Read books. In these books the pages alternate between grown up text and text to be read by young readers. The children read with a grown up and they take turns reading. The children are able to read to someone they love and still have that grown up model reading skills the child is learning. Every night my children take home books to read but our library is sadly lacking in books readable by kindergartners. With these books teachers and volunteers can read with the children at school and at night the books can go home with the students providing reading materials for the home. The series of books provide various titles so the books can be rotated through the class nightly. Every day children can share their new skills and experience the love of reading with someone they love!
