All students have gifts, however, there is a population of students who are considered gifted and have specific learning needs. Some are intellectually gifted, while others are creative thinkers. Some are eager to learn, others are underachievers and need extra motivation.
There are 130 students in our Gifted Education Resource classes who have a passion for problem solving, love a challenge and require an educational experience that is different than the general education setting.
Imagine students who enter your room with amazing potential, endless curiosity and an abundance of energy. These students are, by nature, creators, problem solvers, explorers, and have the ability to learn with greater depth and complexity. Our gifted students possess an innate desire to learn about their passions and diverse interests. Passion Projects provide this amazing opportunity.
We would like to provide Chromebooks for students to use as a research tool for their individualized research projects. Passion Projects promote student engagement and motivation in the learning process. By providing Chromebooks, students will be equipped with a vehicle to take their learning to new heights and satisfy their natural desire to learn with...Passion Projects!
My Project
Chromebooks will add much needed technology for students to explore their interests. Students in my gifted resource class are curious, self-driven, and motivated to learn about topics that interest them. These topics vary greatly. Although we have plenty of books and some computers in our classroom, Chromebooks would allow more students the opportunity to research intriguing topics and share their learning with fellow students.
Passion Projects are student-selected research projects, which create purposeful learning opportunities and self-development, much like the innovative work environment at Google.
Students compose focus questions to drive their research. The research process then begins as students use books and on-line resources to investigate their topic on a deep level. Next, students will use the information gathered during their research to create a unique presentation. These presentations can be in the form of web pages, slideshows, info-graphics, brochures, stop-motion animation, etc. the possibilities are endless! Finally, students share their presentations, teaching others what they have learned.
