“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” ~Nelson Mandela
My students are caring, hard-working, creative, and enthusiastic fifth graders who want to do their best and make the world a better place.
Our school receives 100% funding for free breakfast and lunch for all students. My students have a wide range of ability levels, backgrounds, and interests, and they simply cannot all learn in the same way or with the same materials.
Providing more opportunities for collaboration, creative expression, and the ability to share their knowledge will greatly benefit my students! Most of my students face challenges outside of school, and I want to do all I can to make them feel loved, valued, and successful inside my classroom.
My Project
My students love learning with robots! As soon as they know our robots are involved in the day's activities their excitement is ignited and engagement soars. They have learned a lot about coding this year, and in turn, they have taught me a lot. They've even taught our second-grade buddies how to code! Students were so proud when they had the opportunity to share their knowledge with younger students in our building, and I was extremely proud of them, too.
My students are amazing and always up for a coding challenge I give them, so I know they'll be excited to get their hands and brains on a new robot, like Botley.
Botley the coding robot comes with coding cards, detachable arms, interactive obstacles, coding games and more, so there are endless hours of fun and learning to be had. Botley can be coded for up to 120 steps, looped and programmed to go around objects with if/then logic. Students can also use the black-line follow mode and set up a path for it to travel. There are also hidden features that students can unlock! Coding is so important to teach students because it fosters creative problem solving and computational thinking skills, and also promotes social development as students learn to work together to accomplish a task. I love creating projects to integrate coding into science and social studies and providing my students with awesome activities to help them learn and grow. We're nuts about robots, so thank you for helping to bring this amazing device to my students! Beep-boop! (That's "Thank You!" in robot.)
