This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
"If you want to change attitudes, start with a change in behavior."
~William Glasser
I am moving to an inner city school this fall.
The students all receive free breakfast and lunch. I was able to meet many students and talk to teachers at the end of the year. I am so excited to get started! They don't always have a lot of good role models or support at home, and so I am working hard to make school a great place for them. I believe school should be a fun and safe place where everyone can learn.
My Project
I use an online behavior program called ClassDojo, and they can earn points for positive behavior and achievements. They use the points to purchase class incentives, supplies and prizes at the end of each week. I am looking for new items to motivate them to earn more points and be on their best behavior.
I will use the "Monster" books to start out our school year and get the students excited about their own monster in the behavior program. The books all focus on behavior and school expectations and involve monsters.
In ClassDojo each student has a monster avatar so I want to have the prizes, stickers and books that all relate to monsters.
My students struggle with behavior and making appropriate choices.
By using a behavior program that focuses on positive behavior, I am hoping they will work hard to make good choices to earn lots of points. Over time, this will become a habit and not so focused on the points. I believe this program will help them to be positive students so we can focus on all the learning we need to do.
