Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach first grade to a wonderful group of first graders in the South Bronx. I have 24 boys and girls who all receive free lunch. As we are nearing the end of the school year, I am concerned that most of my students are still having an extremely hard time learning to count money, particularly coins. Unfortunately, the only practice they have is by using black and white workbook pages, which make it very difficult to distinguish one type of coin from another. I would love to be able to do many more hands-on activities related to money. We could really use a set of realistic coins to practice with as well as various money activities and games for students to use during math time. There is only so much you can gain from a workbook! These bright, young first graders will take their coin counting skills with them for the rest of their lives. I'd just like, with your kind help, to give them a head start. These materials would be used for students in future classes as well. Thank you for your support!
