My students are part of the largest school district in New Hampshire. We proudly boast the highest ethnicity and language diversity in the state! My students belong to one of four middle schools in our district and come from a large diversity of socioeconomic backgrounds.
While being part of such a diverse school district gives my students advantages, they also have to deal with many challenges as well.
Many times funds for simple classroom supplies are not available on a per-family basis. Some of my students are also refugees, immigrants or transient due to family situations. While this gives them a world of personal experience and often makes them stronger than the average person, it also makes it difficult to focus, learn another language and fill in pieces of curriculum that may be missing.
My Project
We have been creating really great interactive notebooks since the beginning of the school year, which help us with our writing, reading, analysis, and elaboration skills. We work in our notebooks almost everyday and they are becoming works of art with lots of color, notes glued in, and our writing samples. The problem is, we have run out of the materials we need to construct our notebooks.
We desperately need glue sticks and scissors with which to cut and glue in our notes, writing pieces, graphic organizers, and standards.
Once in a while, we make mistakes, and could use white out to quickly and easily fix an error. We also need sticky notes to help us organize ideas and take notes. Colored rulers would be extremely helpful for following along with reading, but also for drawing in our notebooks. We also need tape and Velcro to stick our idea pages, projects, bright ideas to the wall for sharing and collaborating.
Please help us out of our un-sticky situation by donating these much-needed materials.
