Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am writing on behalf of my classroom made up of 20 extremely social and sweet students with multiple disabilities. I feel so grateful and privileged to work with these incredible students each day. They are thoughtful, intuitive, engaging, and loving. These students live in a low socio-economic district and often miss out on many interactive experiences!
The students are very engaged in academics and try their best every day, regardless of struggles they may have.
Students also participate in many social skills activities and light up any room they walk into. I try to incorporate a variety of learning strategies, group work, and flexible seating and learning options to ensure that each student's needs are met, right where they are! Each student brings something to the table and it makes each day so enjoyable.
My Project
My students are headed to the Bronx Zoo in New York. These students come live in a low socio-economic district in Connecticut, where they often do not get to travel out of state. This field trip will give students the opportunity to see animals up-close and personal! Each student will be able to do research on a particular animal of their choosing and tell their classmates about their animals as we explore the zoo! These science presentations will not only make them better researchers, but also better communicators.
This trip will give my students a once in life-time experience with face-to-face encounters with animals!
This is also a great community outing for students with multiple disabilities. They will be able to practice being social and independent learners while at the zoo. My students are so excited for this trip. Please support transportation for this life-changing experience!!
