Students attend our school due to extreme behavior, which makes it difficult for them to attend their home based school. Students struggle regulating their own emotions and need to be taught appropriate techniques how to handle their emotions.
The majority of our students have faced some kind of traumatic event in their young lives that results in some of the behaviors.
As a class, we work with behavior interventions to help students be able to transition back to their home based school with supports in place.
My Project
My class is going to study insects and do some science projects for the last quarter of school. My classroom enjoys doing science, but because of funds we do not get to do a lot of hands-on learning with science.
I have requested an ant kit, butterfly kit, and a ladybug kit to have more hands-on learning.
I have also requested books to help us learn about the different stages of the lifecycle as we watch the insects go through each stage of the lifecycle with our kits. My class will be able to watch the various insects go through each stage of the lifecycle and experience it first hand in the classroom after learning about it in our books. Our school doesn't get a lot of funds and therefore, our students do not get to experience this, so I would like to be able allow my students this opportunity to learn and enjoy science as they get up close and learn about different insects.
