Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"Nothing GREAT was ever achieved without enthusiasm." ~ Emerson My desire is to improve student learning through the use of technology and meaningful engagement. I want to use their love for technology to build up enthusiasm about learning English.

Sometimes my students get frustrated and upset when they don't understand something because of their language barrier but they never give up.

The majority of my English Language Learners are currently reading three to four grade levels below grade level according to our state and district assessments. Yet, they all have a desire to be fluent English readers and writers even though they are surrounded by non english speakers within their community. Luckily, they understand the importance of being bilingual in the United States. Aside from their language barriers, they also come from very low income households. Unfortunately, for many of them, school is the only place they have access to technology and the Internet.

My Project

With Chromebooks, cases and headphones, my students are no longer limited to learning by listening to a lecture or reading a book. I will be able to provide them with individual support as they explore an abundance of information accessible to them online. Additionally, Chromebooks come with Google Apps for Education which allow them to create, edit and share files without needing to physically sit together. They will be able to collaborate on assignments and projects in order to solve real- life problems and maximize their learning. Students will gain access to a vast number of tools such as speech to text software, foreign language translators, digital mind webs, libraries of visual vocabulary, and personalized learning google sites. Furthermore, this technology will impact the way I teach by allowing me to cater to multiple learning styles while meeting the demands for rigorous intervention. Applications such as google forms, will allow me to easily assess student understanding through multiple means.

The ChromeBooks will connect students to experts in the real world and provide them with endless opportunities to collaborate with students from different countries.

This will expand their learning beyond our classroom walls and deepen their understanding of the world around them. Another benefit is that their learning can take place anywhere, anytime! But the greatest blessing of all would be to provide them with the edge they need to be competitive in a technologically driven world.
