I teach a CDC special education classroom full of 10 extra special students who deserve to have the items and materials they need to make the most out of their education! My students attend a rural school in Tennessee, nestled in the foothills of the Cherokee National Forest and the Smoky Mountains. It is a Title I school, and 80% of students come from socioeconomically low income homes and qualify for free and reduced lunch. Lots of students have to travel on buses daily and are at school from 6:30a.m. until 3:30p.m., which makes for a very long school day! I want my students to enjoy learning and remember school as a welcoming, positive experience that helped shape their positive outlook on life!
Many of these students do not receive any environmental enrichment outside of our school doors.
My goal is to make learning as creative and engaging as I can in order for these students to be knowledgeable and prepared for the next chapter of their lives.
My Project
Having a set of classroom Apple iPads will allow for students to learn at their own pace through different educational apps. Many are adaptive, meaning that questions and problems will get easier or more difficult, depending on student performance. Programs can adjust to meet students at their precise learning levels. In addition, the multitude of apps and software available means that students in the same classroom might be using different systems to learn similar material, depending on their interests and learning.
Educational technology makes it possible for students with special needs to thrive in academic settings.
From adaptive word processor apps to programs that speak for children who struggle with language, technology allows students to communicate and be involved with their teachers and classmates. These iPads would greatly benefit my sweet students
