Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students learn best by doing. In other words, students will learn best by trying to make sense of something on their own with the teacher as a guide, to help them along the way.
Many of our students are English Language Learners.
One of the best techniques educators can use to help these students master science concepts is to provide examples of real, relevant, hands-on science materials and equipment.
Our student population is ninety-two point six percent socioeconomically disadvantaged and thirty-nine point one percent are English learners.
My Project
One set of CPO Crazy Traits equipment is good for groups of three to five students. It helps to engage our students and boost their understanding of key concepts.
This STEM equipment focuses on various topics including adaptation, biodiversity, dominant traits, environmental influence, genetic disorders, genetic engineering, inheritance, meiosis, natural selection, pedigrees, Punnett squares, recessive traits, reproduction and sex-linked traits.
Teachers can use three levels of lab sheets that students use alongside the equipment. Each level is established for a specific learning level. This will help guarantee that both our low and high level students succeed.
With the equipment, students build a unique creature with varying traits. After building the creatures, students play a special environment card game that enables students to understand the influence of environmental traits in a population.
The CPO Crazy Traits equipment also meets MS-LS3-2, MS-LS4-4, MS-LS4-5, HS-ETS1-2, HS-LS2-7, HS-LS3-1, HS-LS3-3, HS-LS4-2, HS-LS4-4 and HS-LS4-5 NGSS performance expectations.
