My students need a mobile kitchen with a Compact Microwave, Mini Fridge, and Roaster Oven to explore literacy with real life experiences and tackle STEM challenges.
My students live in what most of the world would consider poverty. They don't know this though, for the most part. They don't know that all students don't get free breakfast and lunch because of the lack of income in their homes. They do know that education is important and valued by their families, so they come everyday, eager to learn and become our future scientists and artists. They work hard daily to fulfill their dreams and their families' dreams for them.
My Project
My students would be so thrilled with this mobile kitchen. We would use it for so many things. For community building we can make smoothies and each ingredient added to the blender is a character trait of a good classmate. We can connect with literature throughout the year. We study different historical American Indian tribes through children’s stories and one chapter discusses maple syrup. We do a blind taste test to see if students can tell real maple from fake syrup. We could cook pancakes fresh in class to enhance that experience. We serve banana splits connected to multiplication fast facts. We have a STEM focus and use agriculture in the classroom to teach about our state’s ag economy. All of these lessons will be better and more engaging with a way to cook in the classroom. The fridge and microwave are essentials. The blender will make smoothies and more . The griddle will be used for pancakes and more. The crockpot will make “Stone Soup”. Please help bring this project to life.
