My students need a student-learning focused SpEd Resource room; resource books, literacy and math resources, and basic supplies to help continue our success.

"You have to go wholeheartedly into anything in order to achieve anything worth having," Frank Lloyd Wright said, and my students walk in my room everyday ready to succeed!
I teach 3rd & 4th grade Special Education students in a high-need area of Washington, DC with varying exceptionalities.
Society tells my students everyday that they can't and won't succeed because of per-affixed labels based on who they are and where they come from. My job is to look past their "disabilities" and demographics to provide them with the tools they need to succeed in my classroom and in life. During my first year with them I have seen them grow academically, become Special Olympics champs and beat their non-disabled peers to place as the 4th place team in our school science fair.
-Age appropriate, adaptive software lets students move at their own pace. -Small group learning allows teachers to tailor instruction to students needs. -Interactive lessons & information delivered in many modes such as video, pictures, and paper and electronic texts make sure all students see it, say it, hear it, read it, and write it. -High interest topics keep students motivated & engaged. Within the walls of my classroom we look beyond labels. Special education students span many disabilities. The goals are noble, if not challenging: to leave behind old stereotypes, to meet No Child Left Behind targets, and to markedly enhance a special needs child's educational experience. Making a difference in my student's lives is a never-ending quest, filled with heartwarming stories and sometimes fraught with cold, bottom-line numbers that inhibit our access to resources. Help my students realize their potential beyond a label. I know they will but most importantly THEY know they CAN!
All children can learn!
Learning knows no bounds! When teaching students with learning difficulties, it's important to remember that each student is different & learns differently. That's why it's so important to teach to the students the way that they learn. Most students learn best when it's hands-on. These items are a wonderful opportunity to set a child up for success and gives them a chance for the spotlight to shine on them in a positive way. Hopefully you'll help us :-)
