it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"The more you read the more things you know. The more that you learn the more places you'll go" -Dr. Seuss
I have a classroom of 25 students, many who can be labeled as a minority, many who require special education services, many who can be labeled as English Language Learners, and many who go to homes that have very few to no books that they can read for their enjoyment.
I work in a public school district that many label as 'failing,' but everyday my students fight to beat the odds and prove that they can succeed. They are proud to be a part of a Level 1 school for that past three years. These students come to school excited for learning, and love to get their hands on any book they can. My books are constantly borrowed to be taken home and quickly become 'well-loved.' Despite what labels are thrown at them, these students emphasize day in and day out why I love to teach so much and work so hard to make sure they succeed.
My Project
The books being requested will help to expand our current classroom library. These books by Jan Brett will be read during reader's workshop and will be borrowed to be brought home to read at night, on weekends, and during vacations. With these books, students will have a wider variety of texts to choose from, will expand their reading horizons, increase their background knowledge, and continue to support their growth of a love of reading that will hopefully last them a lifetime!
It is extremely important that I provide my students with as many chances in my classroom as possible to experience quality children's books, especially considering many go home to houses with no books, or very few quality children's books.
By donating these items to my classroom, students will be able to enjoy and learn from these books in a variety of ways. You will help them build a lifetime love of reading!
