This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My curious, motivated and inspiring students are eager to learn every day. My school qualifies for universal free breakfast and lunch due to our 90% free or reduced-price lunch status. Our students and their families live in an economically disadvantaged community which is too often the site of violent crime. Every teacher in my school does everything that we can to make our classrooms safe, and engaging centers of learning. My inspiring and inspired students deserve every opportunity to experience hands-on learning.
My Project
I'm hoping to obtain the Royson Binder and binding tools in order to make individual sets of student work. My grade level team has developed a schedule where we provide whole group instruction in reading and math for both our homeroom groups and groups based by skill. Our students are able to manage the physical transitions with ease most of the time. This teacher, however, sometimes struggles to manage the written work of her various instructional groups. We've experimented with gluing materials into spiral bound notebooks to keep things organized. I'm here to tell you that cutting and gluing materials to fit in the books somehow takes a lot more time in real life than I imagined in my mind.
Creating bound sets of student work will help my students to keep their work organized so we can spend more time reading and analyzing and responding to text and less time managing paper.
My students enjoy having their own response journals bound like "real" books.
