We're BOUND for Greatness! Binding Machine for Student Books
My students need bound books in the classroom. We use these bound books to put together all their 'extra practice' work for the year in different subjects. This binding machine will help keep us organized!
My students learn in an International Baccalaureate (IB) school that teaches a global perspective and fosters tolerance and community. My school serves kids from the surrounding neighborhood as well as transfers from other areas of the city, so our students come from all backgrounds and cultures.
In our classroom, we like to play games, read books with the teacher, write stories about things we know, dance, wonder and ask questions about things we're learning, and be kind!
Most of my students come from low income households with parents who either can't work due to disability or work more than one job to support their kiddos. Supplying everything their children need can be a challenge for some of our families.
My Project
We use bound books in our classroom to show off student writing, support student learning of concepts (such as a silent e or needs and wants), and creating books for independent work in which students can practice skills on their own.
Having bound books for independent work allows the students to be more independent in the classroom and confident in their skills, while also allowing the teacher more time to plan for small group instruction rather than having to make new independent activities every week.
In our classroom, we also like to show off student writing by binding books that students have created and placing them in our classroom library to be read by their peers. We encourage students to work independently by supporting their skills with a bound book for each subject. For example, my students will have a bound book for working with words, in which they will practice manipulating letters to build words and further support knowledge of words and spelling. Students will also have a bound book for working on writing and for math activities.
Having the binding machine and coils readily available will allow the teacher to boost student confidence and classroom community by taking good student work and creating something for the class the share.
