Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I am thrilled and honored to teach an amazing group of students who are filled with curiosity and a desire to be part of our school environment. Our school is unique as we do not only focus on academics but focus on the arts. The “stars” program I teach is new. We are a small group (8:1:1) that have all been identified as students with autism. Since our program is newer we are slowly trying to fund it with materials that will help my students eventually have opportunities to be included in as many general education classes as possible. The exciting part is that our high school teachers and students embrace our students identified with special needs and welcome them not only in the academics but in the arts as well. With this in mind, my goal is to advance their skills in both academics and arts.

My Project

We're back and ready to return to our classroom! We have been learning virtually since March 2020 and are finally getting the opportunity to be back to in person learning. However, we want to remain safe and comfortable upon our return. This great group of students have been identified with Autism and although they have managed, the changes that have happened during this time has been difficult for my them. I want the children to return to school with a sense of routine and security.

These individual caddies with all their supplies will accomplish that sense of security and routine they need, while also keeping my students safe.

Upon return to school we need to focus on academics and our social well being. Having supplies organized and ready to go each morning will allow us to spend more time on our restorative circle and academics.
