This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Approximately 80% of my students receive free or reduced-price lunch. 45% of our students are Hispanic and 44% African American. Approximately 20% of our students are English Language Learners. We also have a mobility rate of over 10%.
Our students come from very diverse socioeconomic households.
These households include everything from "traditional" family units to foster family homes.
These students represent a group of students that are typically underexposed to STEM, STEAM, and other enriching educational opportunities outside of the school day as well as entertainment and recreational activities.
My Project
We are down to the last 8 weeks and while we recharge each night, unfortunately, our batteries do not. We need batteries for our pencil sharpeners and game buzzers to finish out the year.
We are full steam ahead during these last few weeks but we still need a little help to finish.
As we complete our units, the students engage in many activities that allow me to check for understanding. Many of those games require student handling, including headbands. The sanitizing wipes help us to keep the spread of germs down by wiping the bands and other games off before they are used by the next group.
Our air purifier has worked great and the filter is proof! We need to change out our filters to continue using air purifier for the remainder of the year, especially while the pollen is high and the flu is still active.
We have also nearly depleted our paper supply. With 3 units left, this carton should get us through with ease.
