This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
This is my 11th year teaching at the best "little school in the hood that could," as my principal would say. We are a high poverty and high minority school. Even though my students may not always have a lot, they do not let that stop them from learning. They always come into my classroom eager and excited to learn.
They are constantly giving me hugs and writing me notes to tell me how much they love school.
I never want this joy and excitement for education to stop. That's why I need to keep finding new ways to keep them motivated and on task. They have so much energy and enthusiasm. I just want to see it channeled in the right way.
My Project
I teach first grade and I'm really trying to instill a love of reading in my students by finding books they will enjoy reading. I also want them to remember to be kind to everyone, no matter how different they are. This is especially important in today's society.
This book is a great picture book that I think my students and parents will enjoy reading together, and it teaches a powerful message to choose kind.
I would love to be able to give each of my students this book to add to their home collection. I want them to leave first grade with a wonderful home library that's filled with books they love.
