We're All Out of Stuff, and Our Teacher is Broke!

My students need individual student-use white boards and expo markers! They also need posterboard, paper and ink to print out projects!

My Students

My students enjoy using anything other than using paper and pencil! They enjoy typing their work and printing it out. (They think they're being "published!") Any time they can, they bug me to death to write on my white board! It would be so much better if they had their own!!

Most of my students are on free or reduced price lunch.

Many times, they don't have paper or pencils, much less their own dry erase marker! Although our town is growing tremendously, there is still a 6.5% unemployment rate. The families of our students struggle to make ends meet, but most of our students have a love of learning! Our school has stopped ordering copy paper and ink, so that it will "cut costs." For big jobs, I can send huge orders to our print shop, but there is no paper and ink for students to complete projects. I cannot allow them to type their essays or written assignments because there isn't any money to buy the essential materials! I have spent almost $300 of my own money on ink and paper and other essential supplies in the past. By donating to this project my students will not feel they need to ask their parents/guardians to buy even "more" supplies throughout the rest of the year. Please help!

My Project

My gifted students need to be enriched. They work on 2 individual projects every marking period. Currently, they're reading "The Giver" and have to create their own Utopian Society. There is a written component and a creativity component to the project. I have purchased poster boards with my own money so that they can express their creativity, but we really need the necessary resources for them to professionally publish their writing. My students need individual student-use white boards and expo markers! They also need posterboard, paper and ink to print out projects! My special education students will use the materials in many ways. Their lessons must be modified, so I will use the white boards to orally quiz them, review material, and check for comprehension.

By being able to publish their work, students will gain confidence in their writing.

Having easy-to-read hard copies can help facilitate peer editing and easier rough-to-final drafts. This will save time, as well, in the classroom because students will not have to rewrite essays over and over using antiquated paper and pencil.
