Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a crayon drawing, alphabet singing, storybook reading Kindergarten teacher and I wouldn't have it any other way! I teach an amazing group of little ones at a Title I school, where 100% of the students are on free and reduced lunch.
My students are curious, passionate, and eager to learn.
Even though some of them struggle with the English language and learning disabilities, they devour books and stories of all kinds! We go to the school library every day because many of them do not have access to books at home. As Dr. Seuss says, "You can find magic wherever you look. Sit back and relax. All you need is a book!"
My Project
Kindergarten is the grade level where a love of books and stories is fostered and nurtured. A wireless listening center will help with that! We will use the wireless listening center during our Reading Block, where students will be given the opportunity to listen to, and read along with, a variety of stories. As we all know, there can never be too many books and stories!
In an age where we have digitized everything, a wireless listening center will put stories in their ears and books in their hands!
For my students, a wireless listening center represents an opportunity for bringing more magical characters, silly stories, and creative vocabulary into their lives. As a teacher, a wireless listening center represents 20 minutes of daily reading that will expose my students to 1,800,000 words per year, greatly increasing their chances of scoring higher on standardized tests. For our Kindergarten classroom, a wireless listening center is the complete package!
