My Students

My students love soccer! Unfortunately, we have very limited equipment at school, and the opportunities to learn the game are slim in their community.

My students come from diverse backgrounds, the majority of them being African-American.

Our elementary school is a Title I school, with 98% of our students receiving free or reduced lunch. My students wake up everyday staring at some tough life circumstances. They live in an impoverished community. Most of them live with a single parent. My students see gangs, drugs, and murder right before their little eyes. I believe in my students. I believe that they can rise above their circumstances to live a life worth living. I believe in setting an example for them as to how to treat people, and how to live. I believe in creating opportunities for them to learn, grow, and achieve.

My Project

With this goal you will be helping to create some of those opportunities. The majority of my students love soccer, and they will have the opportunity to play it together during recess. Also, I am starting a soccer team at my school this spring, and it includes 23 girls, most of them being in the fourth grade. Most of my students do not get to experience such things as being a part of a team, but these girls will now get to do that for the first time. I am excited to teach them the game of soccer. I am eager, thrilled, and energized to teach them about life through the game of soccer. They will experience teamwork, cooperation, and sportsmanship. We will talk about living daily life to the full, including how to treat people, how to dream big dreams, what to do when you are angry, living life with a purpose, and so much more. So, yes, we need a soccer goal, but just imagine what could come from this experience, and how some lives could be changed from it forever!

I am passionate about creating positive experiences for my students, and this donation will help immensely with one of those dreams.
