Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Diversity in books gives an opportunity for children to be exposed to others like them, in a non-threatening and enjoyable way.
My students are the students at the school who are identified as needing MORE.
They need someone on their side, someone to guide them through many struggles, and someone to love them unconditionally, no matter what. My work with them allows them to connect with a supporter, someone in their corner. I actively work to build their 40 Assets, helping them with more opportunities for success when they leave us, for the rest of their lives.
My Project
This group of books was identified in a recent in-service led by Welcoming Schools at The Gay and Lesbian Center in LA. It is a collection of children's books that works to provide coping skills, alternate examples, to normalize many situations that students in my groups may be living. Bibliotherapy is a crucial part of an effective counseling program with elementary school children.
Please help me by allowing me the opportunity to provide my students with another manner of support, and exposure to a collection of literature that can change their lives forever.
