Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Think back to when you were a child and remember the excitement that puppets brought to a normal story. Puppets will allow my students to bring every day stories to life. They will help them to expand their language while enjoying learning.
My students attend a Title One school, meaning that the majority of them are on free and reduced lunch because they come from low income families.
The majority of my students go home to houses where English is a second language. Due to this they do not have the oral language skills that are need in a kindergarten classroom.
My Project
Storytelling kits and puppets will allow my students to see books come to life. Acting out books will improve their oral language skills. In my classroom we are reading emergent story books. Having the puppets to accompany these books will help my students expand understanding of what it means to retell a story while keeping them engaged.
The impact these puppets will have on my student's oral language skills is endless.
With these puppets they will build their vocabulary through interaction and dramatization. The puppet center will allow them to put on shows and produce opportunities for them to listen and respond using correct syntax. Putting on puppet shows will help them to deepen their comprehension and increase their retelling abilities. Having these puppets would change how my students look at storytelling.
