Welcome to the Shark Tank: Make Our STEAM PBL Fin-Tastic!

Help me give my students a 3D Printing Pen, Makey Makey, K'NEX, and a chance to step into the Shark Tank. Help them fall in love with STEAM careers, as they design, build, and market their own product.

My Students

The students that I work with teach me so much every day. All of my students have unique talents, personalities, skills, and learning challenges and strengths. They lead discussions, collaborate, and work hard every day to improve and grow. In my classroom, I strive to engage all of my students by providing them with relevant and authentic learning opportunities. I want my students to grow as learners and as people. I work to teach them not only academics but about life.

My students are strong, resilient, and eager to learn everything they can about the world around them.

My students face more hurdles than most as their access to books and many other sources is limited; they are determined and capable of greatness. The 8th graders I teach are at such an impressionable age and I hope to inspire a love of learning for them before they start high school. Our ultimate goal is to prepare them to lead a successful life that they love!

My Project

In 8th grade, we teach our students about different career pathways by providing them with exciting hands-on learning experiences. My Career Connections class focuses on job opportunities in Information Technology. Through this program, my students are discovering what they are interested in and learning about what careers, education, or training to pursue after high school. We will be exploring the different careers available in STEAM, such as programming, engineering, and video game designing. It is my hope that students will learn that they can enter the STEAM field when they leave high school. I know that this project will engage my students and inspire them to love and pursue STEAM fields in the future.

I need to provide students with hands-on programming and designing experiences that help them fall in love with STEAM careers.

This Project-Based Learning experience is based on one of my favorite shows, Shark Tank. Students will need to design, build, and market a product they create to other "investors" in the class. All of my students will make a prototype of their product and present it with a marketing pitch, strong enough to impress Mr. Wonderful himself. The supplies I am asking for allow my students to be creative. They can use the K'NEX and large Straw Builders to construct a large model or prototype of their product. My artistic students will love to use the 3D Printing Pen to bring their drawings to life. The Makey Makey, Squishy Circuits, and Code Your Own Games book will help my students learn the basics of coding, as they build their own apps and video games. I know that all of my students will be actively engaged as we learn about different careers in STEAM.
