Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My pre-K students live in a very low-income area in Dallas, Texas. In our school, our goal is to prepare them with the necessary skills and knowledge to be successful. My students' age range is from early four to early five years-old. They are eager to learn new things and engage in fun and exciting learning activities. They like to learn by playing games, creating, and teaching each other and me.
My students make me smile every day and give me the inspiration to do my best in the classroom.
My Project
his year I discover that my students like making puppets with leftover paper from our classroom work. That's when I knew I can incorporate puppet making to my lessons.
With these mess mats, ink pads, and other art materials, my students can create a puppet for each letter to better learn each letter name.
They can create animals and other things that begin with each letter. Using the yarn, wiggly eyes, pipe cleaner etc. my students can give personality to their creations. It has been proved that when something is enjoyable and meaningful for a student is easier for them to remember. Each week some students will have the opportunity to share their creation with classmates and with other classes as well. I think these puppets will keep then interested in learning their ABCs.
