Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
From our joyful morning greeting to the last bell, we believe every moment is a learning moment – a moment to shine, to grow, and to develop the academic, emotional, and social skills that lead to success.
Knowledge is power.
Our school is located in Uniondale, NY. Our students are encouraged to take risks, ask questions openly, and explore a variety of cultures and creative arts. My students come from multicultural and various family backgrounds, including Spanish and Creole speaking families.
I am in my 6th year of teaching general music in the classroom. I currently teach kindergarten through fifth grade. Music class is a place where these diverse students can come together to be creative, artistic, and become musicians. My students are developing into amazing musicians through singing, dancing, playing instruments, and performing.
My school prides itself on being a school that believes developing positive character traits in children is just as important as developing their minds. Thus as of 2015, our school is recognized as a National School of Character.
My Project
When students have consistent, comfortable spots to sit upon, their academic achievement and behavior improve, class time is saved, and students feel included. Our music room is in need of a rug for our new space. The classroom rug marks the seating area and separates it from other centers in the classroom. It is particularly beneficial to younger students and bilingual students who need a clear large-size visual for seating area. It is also sturdy enough to stay put when students are engaged in creating music and movement, playing games, and other student-centered activities.
This rug will provide a welcoming atmosphere, a place for students to sit and a place to play instruments.
It will be very easy to call the red group, yellow group, blue group, etc. and everyone will know what group they belong to.
Having a rug in a tile floor classroom is a must, and by donating to this project, you offer comfortable seating to my students and add life to our music room.
