Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students at our school are one-of-a-kind. They love school just as much as the next child. I need to do all I can, during school hours, to help these students progress to well-developed, smart young men and women. To effectively teach students in a wide range of levels, I need many resources. Help me bring in the necessary materials to help my students succeed in school.
The majority of the students at the school come from low-economical households.
Students and parents do not have the financial means to provide essentials. Since Hurricane Irma and Maria, things have become even tighter for parents.
My Project
After the recent hurricanes, many of our students were without power for lengthy periods of time and suffered damage to their homes. When school was back in session, for many of them, school became the place were they felt safe. Along with this, we are starting to see an increase of students to our area that evacuated Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria devastated their homes. I will like for these displaced students to feel welcomed to our school.
Making the students feel like they belong and welcomed with open arms is key for their success at school.
I think having a small welcoming present like fresh popcorn will help.
Having popcorn kits, and popcorn bags to make fresh popcorn will help students feel welcomed to our classroom/school. Students are being displaced due to hurricane Maria and I think getting a little welcoming present will help them feel at home quicker and help them get into the flow of learning new concepts again. I envision my classroom as a fun and nurturing environment where students have everything they need to be active learners.
