Help me give my students a gift card from Teachers Pay Teachers. Materials from TpT require students to pay bills, write checks, use debit cards, keep track of expenses, balance their checkbooks, determine unit pricing & best value.
My students are all young adults who attend the Transition Program of our special education cooperative. Our special education cooperative serves students in 8 elementary school districts and 3 high school districts. We are located in the suburbs of a major city. The students who attend our program are culturally, ethnically, and socio-economically diverse. They have a wide range of abilities, from medically fragile and profoundly impaired to attending classes at our local community colleges. Many have experienced mental health issues. All have experienced trauma due to the disruption that the COVID-19 virus has caused to our routines.
Our Transition program provides students with IEPs extra training in independent living skills, personal-social skills, functional academics, and vocational skills.
These are provided through authentic, functional, community-based experiences that prepare my students to be as independent as possible. My students come into the classroom every day with a positive attitude!
My Project
My students are entering adulthood. They have been used to having all their expenses paid for them. As they are learning how to manage their own finances, they are learning how to pay their own bills, comparison shop for the best deal, use coupons to save money, and use a budget to keep their spending in check and to stay within their means. They are learning that it is not easy to stretch a paycheck! They are finding out for themselves that "adulting" is not easy and that managing their own finances takes a lot of practice! The Teachers Pay Teachers gift card I am requesting will require my students to pay bills, write checks, use debit cards, keep track of their expenses, balance their checkbooks, determine unit pricing, use coupons, and determine the best value.
