This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are an amazing group of diverse young adults. All of my students from those struggling to read at grade level to those who are also in AP programs are encouraged to think about science as a verb.

We do science and they are scientists in my classroom.

As scientists, my students need hands on activities and materials to explore the world around them to the best of their abilities. As they explore, they understand, and as they understand, they learn. I want to build a classroom where they have the opportunity to be part of the scientific solutions to today's problems.

My Project

These scales will allow students working in pairs to take better measurements as they explore the relationship between moles and mass, limiting reactants, and gas laws. Many labs in chemistry require masses to the hundredths decimal place and our current set of scales don't allow for that refined of a measurement.

Students will be able to better understand how the small world of atoms makes up our larger world of materials with better lab results.

Having better scales for all student groups will give them the opportunity to be scientists in my classroom. This opportunity will push them to think more about the world around them and how particles interact in that world
