My integrated chemistry/physics students and biology students need 4 digital balances to use in my classroom lab so that 8 students (or 4 lab groups) would be sharing each balance.

Help! I have a remodeled classroom lab but little or no equipment other than glassware. My students are from the inner city with over 75% on the free or reduced lunch program. Most of them have had little or no hands-on lab experience previously.

My students want to use the lab for hands-on experiments now that we are studying chemistry(subatomic particles, elements, compounds, and chemical reactions). Unfortunately the majority of activities require a balance which I have to borrow from other classroom teachers when they are not in use. I have no balances designated for my students' use.

To make the most efficient use of classroom time, I need to have balances available as needed rather than planning my labs around another teacher's schedule. (The balances belong to other teachers because they wrote grants to procure the equipment.) Also I would like to have digital balances because that is what my students would be using in a real world situation in a commercial lab or in a college lab.

Your help will make it possible for my students to get the hands on lab experience that they will need to succeed in higher level science classes. Too many of our students who make it to college science classes don't succeed because they're overwhelmed trying to "catch up" in basic lab techniques that we can't teach due to lack of equipment.
