My students love reading about current events. I frequently bring in news articles and clips from the web for us to view and discuss and they're always full of interesting questions and connections, but the news sources often not at their reading level.
I teach 4th grade in a low-income, high need community.
I teach in California. The school is a diverse one. Some of our students' parents are in the coast guard. Others live in transitional housing for homeless families. The vast majority of my students qualify for free or reduced lunch.
My classroom is a community of bright and enthusiastic young learners. I feel thankful every day for the opportunity to help their minds grow.
My Project
Time For Kids is a weekly news magazine, published by Time Magazine, that contains articles on a variety of subjects from science and technology, to the environment, to current events. My students have a strong desire to know about the world around them and TFK provides that in a way that their rarely updated textbooks cannot.
