I would like to have my class receive an individual subscription to Weekly Reader. They are great reading resources for the children and they love the unusual and current event articles. Each issue includes current event topics, You Decide! (a character education cartoon that acts as a discussion starter), Think Critically Skill, Brain Builders(a comprehensive review of the issue that includes graphic aids such as maps, tables, graphs,etc.), and a teacher's guide. Weekly Reader also has an interactive website that we can visit while in our computer lab or using our COWS(computers on wheels)laptops. I teach all subjects and the Weekly Reader integrates many subjects. The only materials needed is a subscription to the Weekly Reader for each of my 24 students. Every issue of Weekly Reader provides content that helps children read, write, think independently while reinforcing curriculum and helping enhance student performance.
