I currently teach first grade in Chicago. I have thirty enthusiastic learners. My students are so excited to learn about graphs, weather and different cultures.I have had the opportunity to use Weekly Readers in the past. Unfortunately, we do not have the funds to keep purchasing them. From time to time, I take out some of the old Weekly Readers to supplement the ideas that are currently being taught in math, science, and social studies. My class enjoys looking at the Weekly Reader magazines that depict ideas from many subject areas in different ways. I think my class is drawn to the magazines because they are geared to grade levels, so my students can easily read them. This is extremely helpful for their confidence in themselves, and about their ability to read! I know all of my students would love having magazine subscriptions of their own. I also feel the Weekly Readers will be something for them to take home and share with their families. This can also make the students more excited to read different literature other than books; and hopefully allow the students and their families to read together.
