Our school is a wonderful and amazing place to be! The students enter school every day eager and ready to learn. They have a wonderful and natural curiosity about the world. The students are each unique learners, but each one has many special gifts to offer to the world. The students come from diverse backgrounds with a variety of languages and cultures. What makes us special is our strong sense of community.
We work together to create a classroom culture that fosters creativity, hard work, acceptance, and celebrations of both successes and failures as an important part of learning.
Each day, I am fascinated by my students' drive and the ways they continually find to support each other! They work and learn through play and conversation as well as through their written work.
At our school we strive to be the best place for ALL students to learn and grow.
We know that students are able to best focus on their learning when they are well fed.
Nutrition is key. While free breakfast and lunch are available to our low-income students, many of these students would also benefit from receiving supplemental help in the form of an "extra" backpack with food to get through each weekend. With this need in mind, we would like to continue our Weekend Meal Backpack Program.
To specifically target our students who are homeless and/or experiencing poverty, these backpacks will be filled with simple, easily prepared by youth, meals. This would include oatmeal cups, macaroni and cheese cups, ravioli, fruit cups, and backpacks filled with utensils.
This will be our third year implementing this project and your donation to this grant would enable us to restock for the upcoming school year. We do anticipate a greater need for this next year, as the current pandemic has caused financial hardships for many families. We would love to have our food pantry stocked up and ready to go in the fall.
Thank you so much for your consideration of this project!
