Have you ever attempted to do something, but it seemed you just could not do it right no matter how hard or how many times you tried? This is what it is like for my students every day. I teach students with learning disabilities, ADD/ADHD, and mild autism. Many of them are functioning 2 to 3 grade levels below their academic level. They have difficulties sitting for long periods of time, being able to remain on task and complete that task. I teach in a Title I school in the highest poverty area of our district. My students work hard and enjoy learning new things in spite of their challenges.
My students in my classroom really struggle with reading, writing and math, but they are not quitters.
We encourage each other every day and when one student is successful and meets a goal, we all celebrate.
My Project
Can you sit for in a chair for 50 minutes without moving? My students have learning disabilities that impact their ability to learn. Research proves providing flexible seating to students - with and without learning disabilities - helps them stay focused, be more calm, process information better which helps them to learn better.
Kids need to wobble, bounce and sometimes even just stand for a while.
I have a couple of students who will take about 5 minutes and walk around my circle rug, then sit back down to do their work. If a student is not comfortable in their seat, they are not going to be a productive student. I want to help my students be productive and focused in my classroom.
