My students need LEGO WeDo 2.0 to enrich their learning in STEM. This would give them a hands on approach to problem solving and critical thinking. It will introduce them to coding.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
A day in my classroom is non-stop. I have gifted - high achieving students and they are curious and eager to learn new things. They love to create and build. They learn best with hands on activities.
Our school is a Title one school where a minimum of 40% of our students have free or reduced lunch.
The students will be using the LEGO WeDo system to work collaborate with each other to create amazing projects. We will be using this in extension to our regular curriculum. The LEGO WeDo system will be used hands on during centers during our science and math time. We will also be using components of the LEGO WeDo system as extended projects for the early finishers. We will be working along with administration to share our project results with other classes. We will work with our media specialist and will take place during media specials time.
My particular students are inquisitive and love to learn, and they are embracing technology and working hard to learn skills many of adults are still learning.
My Project
The students will work through different stages of exploration, creation, modification, collaboration, and sharing. In the exploration phase, students connect to a scientific question or an engineering problem, establish a line of inquiry, and consider possible solutions. The steps of the exploration phase are: connect and discuss. Creation phase, students build, program, and modify a LEGO® model. Projects will be one of three types: investigative, design solutions, and model creation. The steps of the creation phase are: build, program, and modify. Share phase, students present and explain their solutions using their LEGO models and the document they have created with their findings with the integrated documentation tool.
We are Title 1 school and seek to increase our Science FCAT scores.
We are also a Microsoft School and would like to utilize technology to achieve our goals. Last school year our Science FCAT achievement score was 68% passing and we hope to increase this by 5%. We are confident the lessons learned from this program will provide our students with a greater understanding of the scientific process and enhance critical thinking, encourage independent learning, and develop 21st century skills.
